![]() ![]() I will personally give it a try later today. Right-click the TimeMachine volume that was created above and select 'Add APFS Volume'. In the Erase dialog, set Name to 'TimeMachine', set Scheme to 'Guid Partition Map' and Format to 'APFS'. Right-click the Samsung T5 drive in the left-hand pane and select 'Erase'. I Have still not tried this, but I heard of some people who managed to get this working somehow. Connect the Samsung T5 drive to the Mac and open Disk Utility. Next, put in the size of your WD external drive partition on the next line. You do this by picking the up and down arrows to the right hand side of the format option. You can also use an APFS (Apple File System) since Mac OS x version Big Sur. I guess you could try following the steps found here: using your NTFS partition instead of the Samba share mentioned. Time Machine needs a partition formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) File System). Erase the uppermost, unindented icon (the entire drive). Further, I say "REALLY need" because it is unsupported and someday this workaround may stop working with further releases of OS X, apart from not performing as good as a native solution ). HOWEVER, it seems that you actually can use a dedicated NTFS partition if you REALLY need to (In case you use a router that supports NAS and does not support the HFS+ file system nor the AFP protocol, for instance. The best way to proceed, imho, would be to resize the NTFS partition and create a HFS+ one on the same disk, so you could keep your files in place while having a partition dedicated exclusively to Time Machine. ![]()
